TWO CASTLES BRINGS THE PAST TO LIFE WITH NEW DEVELOPMENT
Two Castles Housing Association has converted an 18th century church hall in South Lakeland into sixteen high quality, affordable properties for rent.
Situated at New Inn Yard in Kendal, High Gate Hall was most recently used as a school, gym and judo club. The stone fronted, four storey building was built in 1844 and has been transformed by Two Castles into twelve, one bedroom and four, two bedroom flats.
Stephanie Murphy, chief executive of Two Castles Housing Association, said: “Two Castles is committed to providing a high standard of affordable housing and it has been really interesting to see this historic building transformed into something of such benefit to local people.
“High Gate Hall is an exciting new development of affordable homes that furthers our commitment to providing much needed affordable homes in South Lakeland, where many people are being forced to move out of the area due to high house prices – more than ten times the average salary - and the demand for second or holiday homes.
“We have worked closely with South Lakeland District Council to identify people who are in the greatest housing need to ensure they are given priority for these properties, helping to meet the huge demand for housing in this area.”
Tony Whittaker, principal strategy officer at South Lakeland District Council, said: “The Council was pleased to support Two Castles with this important development. This scheme will contribute towards meeting the very high need for affordable, one and two bedroom homes in Kendal.”
