TWO CASTLES EXPANDS ITS DEVELOPMENT PORTFOLIO

Two Castles Housing Association has welcomed a £2,647,907 grant from the Housing Corporation enabling it to build 65 new homes across the North in association with the Spirit partnership.

The Spirit partnership, a consortium of northern housing associations working together to build quality affordable homes, has been awarded £27million to build over 500 new homes, 65 of which will be developed by Two Castles.

In previous years, the Housing Corporation has announced its total allocations. This year, however, it has not allocated all of the available resource through the initial bidding round, meaning there is more grant available for new development opportunities at a later date. Additional allocations will be considered this year in April and October.

Stephanie Murphy, chief executive of Two Castles Housing Association, said: “We are thrilled with our initial award from the Housing Corporation and are keen to add to our portfolio of over 3,400 properties that we own and manage across the North.

“We are committed to the provision of affordable housing in areas that need it most and are looking forward to more new development opportunities in the future.”

Two Castles received grants for the following schemes as part of the Spirit bid:

  • Butterknowle, Bishop Auckland – 2 units
  • Dent, Yorkshire Dales – 12 units
  • Southfield Road, Sedburgh – 3 units
  • Flookburgh, South Lakes – 18 units
  • Grange, South Lakes – 12 units
  • Sneckyeat, Whitehaven – 5 units
  • Bellingham, Northumberland – 13 units

Two Castles provides high quality and affordable homes, ranging from rented property for families, the elderly and single people, to shared equity starter homes and leasehold schemes.

It covers a wide geographic area stretching from Berwick down to North Yorkshire in the North East and from Carlisle to Manchester in the North West.

The Spirit partnership consists of Two Castles Housing Association, Three Rivers Housing Group, Tees Valley Housing Group, Erimus Housing, Housing Hartlepool and Coast & Country Housing. It was set up to deliver high quality, well designed, sustainable and affordable homes in line with the Government’s house building agenda.
