TWO CASTLES COMPLETES SLALEY HOUSING DEVELOPMENT Two Castles Housing Association has launched its brand new Slaley development providing affordable homes in a much needed high value area.

The site has two and three bedroom homes available for low cost rent and sale under a shared ownership scheme. Work originally started on it in December 2006.

John Hay, Two Castles Housing Association development director, said: “We’re delighted with the results at our Slaley development, which has been finished to a high standard. Rural areas such as Tynedale have a big problem with regards to lack of affordable housing for local people and key workers like nurses and teachers and the need for local affordable homes in Slaley had previously been identified in the village’s parish plan.

“Two Castles Housing Association worked with the parish council and a local landowner to identify a piece of land that could be used for this purpose.”

In all its developments, Two Castles works with partners to ensure the needs of parish council members and local residents are being met. The parish, the local authority and post office in Slaley were all consulted as to the selection of the name of the development, Reaston View, which refers to the name of the hills that can be viewed from the development.

John Hay said: “We are very pleased with the name, Reaston View, for our flagship development in Slaley. Our ambitious development programme recognises our continued commitment to supporting the regeneration and sustainability of our villages, towns and cities across the whole of the north.”

John Carleton, the Housing Corporation’s field director for the North, said: “In partnership with the Housing Corporation, Two Castles Housing Association has done an excellent job in delivering the new housing at Reaston View in Slaley. This development is a perfect example of what the Housing Corporation is achieving in many rural districts across the north: affordable homes for strong local communities. These new houses will enable seven households to live in high quality, affordable housing in the neighbourhood of their choice.”

Previous developments by Two Castles have been hailed as examples of best practice in a guide launched by the Prince of Wales’ Affordable Rural Housing Initiative. Two Castles now owns and manages over 3,300 properties across the North.
