FACELIFT FOR ANCIENT CITY BUILDING
The Mayor of Carlisle, Councillor Peter Farmer, officially opened the newly refurbished head offices of Two Castles Housing Association in Carlisle last week.
Two Castles’ headquarters is based in an 18th Century, Grade II listed building at Paternoster Row, and its renovation has seen one of the oldest and most prominent buildings in Carlisle being given a £350,000 upgrade.
Work included strengthening the walls and the floors, as well as some restoration work, as Two Castles was committed to retaining as much of the original building as possible. The transformation also included the construction of a state of the art glass corridor and an attractive courtyard and garden area.
Two Castles’ Chief Executive, Stephanie Murphy, said: “We’re thrilled to be back after the refurbishment and the offices look amazing. We didn’t want to leave the premises and move elsewhere so it’s great that we’ve been able to upgrade our existing home and enhance our operations for the benefit of our residents across the North West and North East.”
The Mayor of Carlisle, who was on hand to cut the ribbon, was also presented with a charitable donation of £2,230.80 for the Eden Valley Hospice and Orthopaedic Department (Out-patients), Cumberland Infirmary, which was raised at the Association’s Charity Golf Day in August.
Stephanie added: “On behalf of everyone at Two Castles we’d like to thank the Mayor for attending today. We raised the money for the Mayor’s chosen charity at our Golf Day, which was a great way for us to support a local charity and the local community.”
Two Castles derives its name from the two castles in Carlisle and Newcastle. The association now owns and manages over 3,300 properties and provides high quality and affordable homes ranging from rented property for families, the elderly and single people, to shared equity starter homes and leasehold schemes. It covers a wide geographic area stretching from Berwick down to North Yorkshire in the North East and from Carlisle to Manchester in the North West.
