Two Castles hits the bull's-eye with charity fundraising

Two Castles Housing Association staff and residents at Catherine Mill in Whitehaven have helped to raise £1,176 for Cancer Research with a 12 hour darts marathon.

Christine Bruce, a cleaner at Catherine Mill and at the Association's Whitehaven office, organised the darts marathon to raise money for the charity. The fundraising event was supported by the residents and staff at Catherine Mill.

To organise the event, Christine joined forces with Aileen Pearson, landlady at the Vine Market Place pub in Whitehaven where Christine plays darts. Christine also secured the support of all 15 of her fellow darts team players at the pub, who each took their turn in maintaining the momentum of playing darts for the full 12 hour period.

Christine said: “We are all really pleased to have raised so much money for Cancer Research with the darts marathon. Two Castles Housing Association residents were extremely supportive, especially Ruby James who provided invaluable support in collecting donations. It was a great event and I was delighted to see so many people pulling together to raise money for this deserving charity.”

Dave Armstrong, housing services director at Two Castles Housing Association, said: “Christine is an inspirational member of our team who has worked closely with Two Castles’ residents and staff, as well as the local community, to raise a substantial amount of money for a worthwhile cause.”
