Resident manager is a charity champion
Sue Clark and residents at Wadham Court
Two Castles Housing Association staff and residents at Wadham Court in Ryhope, Sunderland, have helped to raise over £10, 000 for charity in just 18 months.
Wadham Court is a sheltered housing scheme with around 38residents aged from 60 years plus and its resident manager, Sue Clark, leads the fundraising activities at the development for a number of worthwhile causes. Sue recently joined forces with Nora Whitfield and Ruby Chapman from Ryhope Working Men’s Club to organise a number of social nights and raffles which raised £1, 800 for the British Heart Foundation and £3, 500 for the Macmillan Nurses and the Neonatal Unit at Sunderland Royal Hospital.
In March 2008, Sue organised cake sales, race nights and raffles for residents, also in conjunction with Ryhope Working Men’s Club, raising £2, 800 for the Great North Air Ambulance. Wadham Court has also raised £876 to send local heart transplant patient, twelve year old Lynsey Saunders, to Disneyland. Additionally, a total of £1, 538 was also raised for Ryhope Junior School to recognise its centenary and fund a trip for pupils to Beamish Museum.
Dave Armstrong, housing services director at Two Castles Housing Association, said: “Sue is an inspirational member of our team who has worked closely with Two Castles’ residents and staff to raise a substantial amount of money for charity. It is great to see the residents of Wadham Court get involved in this way to do their bit and raise money for such worthwhile causes.”
Sue is also currently organising a Halloween fancy dress event, with raffles, tombolas, a disco and karaoke to raise additional funds for the Great North Air Ambulance. Held on October 30 at Ryhope Working Mens Club, it is open to both residents and the public.
