IMPORTANT: Choice Based Lettings - we need your views
Councils and Housing Associations are set to change the way they let rented properties across Cumbria at the end of 2010. The 6 local authorities in the county and 8 Housing Organisations are working together to develop a new way of letting their properties in order to give more choice to local people who need social rented housing.
They will maintain one register of interested customers, who will only have to complete one application form instead of one for each landlord they previously wanted to apply to. Landlords will advertise their properties through the scheme and customers will then choose the vacancies for which they wish to be considered.
To make sure this works well we are currently consulting our residents and prospective residents on the new Choice Based Lettings initiative.
