Two Castles Housing Association residents have been sowing the seeds of success again this summer with its annual garden competition.
Gillian and John Kennedy, residents at Sneckyeat Grove in Whitehaven, were announced as the first prize winners in the Best Individual Garden category for their eye-catching borders and pots. The beautiful floral displays by residents at Rudds Court in Whitehaven were also awarded first prize in the Best Communal or Sheltered Scheme category.
Dave Armstrong, housing services director at Two Castles Housing Association, said: “Now in its third year, this annual competition has been as popular as ever with our residents, who have all worked hard to impress the judges with their gardens.
“I would like to congratulate all of the winners as there was a very high standard of entries this year, which is testament to the commitment and hard work of everyone involved. It is great to see residents taking so much pleasure in improving their outdoor environment for both themselves and their neighbours.”
Other winners in the North West included residents at Catherine Mill, a sheltered housing scheme in Whitehaven which received second place in the Best Communal or Sheltered Scheme Category. The second prize for the Best Individual Garden was awarded to Ronnie and Lynne Chorley of Lingla Bank in Frizington, with John Story of Kirkbeck Close in Carlisle receiving third place.
All first prize winners received £50 in vouchers, with second and third place being awarded vouchers to the value of £25 and £10 respectively. All entrants received a certificate from John Hughes, chairman of Two Castles Housing Association, in recognition of their efforts.
The judging team was comprised of Two Castles North West Regional Committee chairman Ray Bloxham and Resident Committee member Burt Ratcliffe, together with Two Castles’ Dave Armstrong and Angela Lapping.
