Accessibility

We have designed this website with people from various backgrounds in mind, including those with different types of disability and illnesses, the elderly, and those whose first language is not English.

The options we have included to help people use this site are:

  • A BrowseAloud facility, which reads the text out loud for those with the correct software
  • Integrating Google Translate, online software that can translate the web pages into many different languages. The translation is automated so it may not be perfect, but it should be understandable.
  • A zoom option that can increase the size of any text, for those who have trouble reading smaller prints
  • A high contrast facility, which uses colour to make words stand out better and therefore make them easier to read.

At the user testing stage before we launched, the site was tested by a specialist accessibility organisation (MPH in Gateshead), who fed back any problems or suggestions to us so that we could make the necessary adaptations.

We hope that you find the site easy to use and interesting.
